Circo Pazzo Series
Circo Pazzo (Italian for Crazy Circus) is a series of paintings in acrylic on canvas. “In Montepulciano, the small town in central Italy where I live, the tradition of the traveling circus is still a major form of entertainment. I was inspired by the promotional posters, which are modern and slightly absurd, and by the circus itself. I tried to imagine how the posters might have looked in the past and added my own touch of psychedelic influence from Italian architecture, and the art nouveau posters such as Alphonse Mucha. Certainly, my own past influenced me, with family that worked for the ‘Greatest Show on Earth,’ the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and a cabbage shared with the famous clown Emmett Kelly in the1950s… Smile!”
Circo Pazzo è una seria di quaddri in acrilico sul tessuto. “A Montepulciano dove abito c’e ancora la tradizione del circo transitorio. Sono stato ispirato dai manifesti promozionali, che sono moderni ed un po’ assurdi, e anche dal circo proprio. Ho provato ad immaginare come i manifesti potrebbero essere stati nel passato, e di aggiungere un mio tocco di psychedelic, e di suggerimenti dall’architettura italiana, ed i manifesti d’arte nouveau come Alphonse Mucha. Certamente, il mio passato mi ha influenzato, con famiglia che ha lavorato per ‘The Greatest Show on Earth,’ il Barnum & Bailey Circus (un circo americano), e un cavolo che ho mangiato con il famoso pagliaccio Emmett Kelly negli anni 50… Sorridi!”
